Why Is There So Much Chemical Based Skin Care On the Market?

A lot of main stream or mass produced skin care and shampoo is made with chemical detergents and petrochemicals. Petrochemicals are such ingredients as fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and synthetic preservatives. Although a lot of these particles are too large to penetrate the skin, they can result in Allergies and health problems. Increasing use of Sodium Laural sulfate (SLS) in skin care can cause major skin irritations and has even been shown to even be fatal. Studies show that chemicals like this clog the skin pores and do not have any benefit to the skin. Below is a brief description of some of the most common chemicals used in Modern day Skin Care and Hair Care products. Decide for yourself whether you want to continue using them. Chemical Sulphates

Is chemical free skin care betterSulphates are used as cleansing ingredients in shampoos and shower gels due to their low cost and strong cleansing power, sulphates can irritate the skin, especially for sensitive skin. Sodium Commonly used forms are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate has been linked to Cancer on a number of Studies. Chemical Preservatives Chemical preservatives are used in most cosmetic products to extend the shelf life of the products. However, many such preservatives are skin irritants. Commonly used preservatives include formaldehyde, methylisothiazolinones and DMDM hydantonin. Natural Skin care and Hair care products rely on the properties of natural ingredients such as Vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract, honey and Sandalwood essential oil. Ethoxylates and Dioxane Ethoxylates are ingredients used in most personal care products, cleansers, lotions, and creams including shampoos, hair conditioners. They have been shown to contain the impurity 1.4 dioxane, which is a known toxin and carcinogen that can be absorbed through the skin (cancer forming). Ethoxylates are unstable and have been shown to break down in strong sunlight to form free radicals, in turn damaging the skin. The most used Ethoxylates are sodium laureth sulfates (SLES), the polysorbates and PEGs.

Nitrosamine

A major concern within the cosmetic industry is Nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are formed by pollutant by products in a number of cosmetic raw chemical ingredients. Nitrosamines are commonly used in soaps, shampoos and shower gels as a foam boosting agent and surfactant (cleansing agent). Nitrosamines are toxic and carcinogenic (cancer forming)
